Blue Pill

For years, I have been on only two types of antidepressants, and for a while an antipsychotic.

While they did improve my mental health, I always found that I was still fatigued and my motivation never really got back to baseline.

I figured it was stress, and maybe working too much outside of my working hours.

I have experienced burn out a few times.

Single motherhood wasn’t easy.

I have always used multiple methods to track things as I got older. It didn’t register that the constant noise, the fatigue, the multiple agendas/reminders/electronic planners, and distractions were something more.

The “I will leave the boring stuff until later”.

The hyper-focus.

In September, I did a self reporting ADHD checklist.

I sat on it for two months.

I had a doctors appointment coming up to refill my antidepressant, so I pulled it out and looked at the questions again (you really need to stop and think about your childhood while filling this in).

I had no changes.

I sent the form before my appointment.

The doc and I had a good discussion (she has been my doc for 30 years).

She then gave me the diagnosis I knew I was coming.

ADHD.

We discussed options, and I was willing to try a medication.

She called in a prescription for Foquest. We set up follow ups.

I also had a therapy appointment that day. My therapist and I discussed the diagnosis and we will frame some treatment.

I started the Foquest today. While there wasn’t a big change on the lowest dose, there was a difference.

Not so much noise.

I could focus during webinars and completed tasks. I wasn’t tired and didn’t feel like a slug.

I know it is wearing off this evening – I am easy to distract and the static in my head is returning.

Will see what the next 6 days bring.

I’m hopeful!
